Review: Living To 100 Life Expectancy Calculator

Lots of folks are looking for the Living to 100 Life Expectancy Calculator at this time of year since new years resolutions are upon us.

The calculator can be found here and is put together by Dr. Thomas Perls.

I’ve taken the assessment and have issues with the criteria Dr. Perls uses.

First, he uses common standards like height, weight, blood pressure and cholesterol levels to determine your life expectancy. Unfortunately he also negatively factors in things like the not using sun screen, which in fact can decrease your life span. Daily exposure to the sun has now been proven to reduce the incidents of cancer by 77% (it’s been found to prevent/treat as many as 17 different types of cancer including prostate cancer) and helps strengthen your immune system.

There are 40 questions in all and are fairly quick to go through. The feedback after taking the assessment are valuable in general although could be improved. When I completed the assessment, my reported life expectancy was -1! Apparently there are some bugs in the system that need to be worked out. :)

To your best health!
