Can The National Body Challenge Help You?

As the New Year is upon us, it’s the time many make resolutions to lose weight. But what’s the best way?

This year Discovery Health wants to help with the National Body Challenge. What is it?

Discovery Health’s National Body Challenge is a free, comprehensive fitness and weight-loss challenge that provides the tools and inspiration — online, on television and beyond — to get in shape, shed extra pounds and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Open to individuals, groups and families, the National Body Challenge offers the flexibility for participants to make the right choices to meet their personal nutrition and fitness goals.

The health advisers include Gilad Janklowicz, Mehmet Oz, MD, Jonathan Ross and more nationally known experts in health and wellness.

The event kicks off on January 5th and 6th and runs for 8 weeks.

To participate in the National Body Challenge you register at Discovery Health and get the following benefits:

  • an 8-week membership to Bally Total Fitness®
  • customized meal plans with over 1,000 kitchen-tested, nutritionist-approved recipes
  • progressive fitness plans, tailored for you by experts
  • diverse community of support to help you achieve your personal lifestyle goals
  • individualized weight and fitness trackers
  • video and interactive tools from fitness and weight loss professionals
  • Weekly information packed e-newsletter

I’ve joined to review what they offer and feel that if you’re a person that need support it could be helpful. There are many resources and in one sense, it may seem like too much, almost overwhelming how it’s set up on the web site. You complete an assessment and the system makes recommendations based on your current situation and your goals.

You can select the type of meal plans you prefer, and interestingly, I selected vegetarian and my meal plans included chicken. Hmmm. The plans also include lots of dairy products which are clogging to the system and are not recommended. There are good tips on exercise, motivation and support throughout the web site including articles and videos. The 8 week free pass to Bally’s can help get you going, although you don’t need to go to a gym to keep fit. I regularly use these two exercises routines daily that I do at home in less than 20 minutes a day, without any equipment or costs.

Overall, the challenge system can be helpful, although it’s not necessary to reach your optimal weight or health goals. A simple change in lifestyle habits is all that is needed to get started to better health. These include:

To make it easier, I’ve put together a list of 37 tips to permanent weight loss that you can put into action right away. It’s amazing how just a few simple changes can make a profound effect on your and your family’s health. Grab the 37 tips here.

To your best health!

Cindy @ 8:30 pm:

I’d like to know what expertise you have in the field of nutrition. 37 tips seems like a lot for a “few simple changes.” This just sounds like an ad for your tips, not an accurate assessment of an established plan.

Nice to hear from you Cindy. Sure thing, besides being a health coach and studying nutrition and health for over 20 years, both formally and informally, the best credentials are those that show the advice works. Degrees and certifications are important, but they don’t guarantee success. Look how many doctors cause untold deaths each year, in fact, health care is the leading preventable killer in the U.S. (see Death By Medicine). Of course, don’t get me wrong, there are many wonderful doctors doing amazing things to save lives. Personally I’ve turned my life around and have helped clients worldwide in overcoming health challenges, losing weight and feeling better by doing what works. But that doesn’t matter as much as the positive comments from readers of my books and articles. If you grab the tips mentioned above and read them, you’ll notice that they are simple changes and if implemented, they work. Of course you’ll want to be open to making positive changes and have made a commitment to yourself that you’re willing to do anything you need to in order to reach your health goals. You only have one life. All the best to you and Happy New Year!
