No More Alternative Therapies?

Posted on April 23rd, 2007 in alternative health care | No Comments »

Please read the following from Dr. Rima Laibow and how the FDA is trying to classify alternative healing therapies as medical procedures, thus putting everyone currently offering such therapies out of business (and no longer available to you). The comment period ends April 30th, so take action today and let as many others know as well. You have a right to use the alternative therapies of your choice, don't let the FDA take that away from you.

The FDA is using legal maneuvering to end your access to natural health products (like vitamins, minerals and herbs) and natural health therapies of all sorts. Again. This time, their ploy is to declare the therapies are "Medicine" so any non-physician who uses them will be practicing medicine without a license. Since these practices are "Medicine", any products used would be untested drugs and therefore forbidden.

Your Comments are Vitally Important

Public, professional and industry comments are being accepted on the FDA proposal to "capture" alternative procedures and products as "medicine" and then make them illegal. The history of these repressive attacks by the FDA makes it clear that public outcry, IN HUGE NUMBERS, is the only effective tool that natural health supporters have to change this disastrous outcome. Comments will be accepted until April 30. By contacting everyone you can reach to ask for their participation in this comment campaign, we can kill this assault on personal health freedom.

Please visit this link ( and forward it to everyone you can reach with a brief explanation of the issues. Urge everyone in your personal and professional circles of influence to protect their health freedom -- their personal right to make their own health choices.

It is important to take a moment to email the manufacturers of the health care products you take an ask them to alert their suppliers and customer base to protect their businesses. Your natural health care providers need to alert their patients and colleagues, too.

Thanks for your activism!

Severe Obesity Fastest Growing Segment

Posted on April 12th, 2007 in diet, eating habits, obesity, research | No Comments »

A recent study showed the severe obesity, those with a BMI of 40 or higher is the fastest growing segment of those that are overweight.

The study reveals that this segment grew by 50 percent from 2000 to 2005, twice as fast as those with just moderate obesity.

Report Author Roland Sturn, from the non-profit research organization RAND, noted, "The proportion of people at the high end of the weight scale continues to increase at a brisk rate despite increased public attention on the risks of obesity and the increased use of drastic weight loss strategies, such as bariatric surgery."

He also noted that this "was not a rare condition among certain genetically vulnerable people but, rather, is an integral part of the U.S. population's weight distribution."

Obesity in general is a lifestyle disease that leads to other diseases and illness, and eventually premature death. It's preventable through simple lifestyle changes.

Popular Pain Killers Increase Blood Pressure

Posted on April 4th, 2007 in acetaminophen, archives of internal medicine, disease, drugs, high blood pressure, ibuprofen, managing stress, medication, medications, natural health, pain killers, studies | No Comments »

According to a new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, middle aged men that took popular over-the-counter pain killer medications were found to substantially increase their risk of high blood pressure.

Men that took acetaminophen, ibuprofen and aspirin were found to have between 26-40% higher risk of high blood pressure.

Two other studies found a similar co-relation in women as well.

"People should be aware that these drugs have potential adverse effects.... I would recommend that individuals limit their use of these medications unless they are clearly indicated." - Senior Author Dr. Gary Curhan noted.

As with most medications, they only mask the symptoms without getting to the root of the problem. Maintaining a healthy diet, being active and managing stress are far more effective in managing (or eliminating) pain... without the side effects.
